Amazon's smart speaker Echo Spot is perfect for the bedroom
The latest of Amazon's Alexa products to come to the UK is the Echo Spot. It's a small, globular speaker that's also equipped with a screen. It fits into Amazon's cannon of Echo's as the smallest device with a display and middling in its price range: the Spot costs £120 in either black or white.
Amazon's hardware design has never matched the quality of its competitors. It's fair to say the company's expertise lies within software rather than industrial design. However, the Echo Spot is one of the more visually pleasing products it's released in recent years.
The Echo Spot has a 2.5-inch LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 480x480 pixels. Needless to say, the small, low-resolution screen is best-designed for use up-close. From a couple of metres away it's incredibly difficult to read rolling news updates or notifications. Watching short videos such as news briefings on the screen is fine, but you wouldn't want to watch videos that are longer than a couple of minutes.
